History
The Department of History was established with the inception of the College. The Honours course was introduced in 1995. It is one of the earliest departments catering to the study of History in the district of Charaideo. The Department teaches a varied course in Indian History, Non-Indian History putting importance on emerging areas like Social History, Intellectual History, and Subaltern History etc.
The Department also set up the Centre for Sukapha Study and Research in 2010. The Centre was financially sanctioned by the UGC for a period of three years. The Centre conducted certificate courses during its term. Survey and research was also conducted at the initiative of the Centre around sites of historical importance in Charaideo. The findings of this research were published in a book form by the Department and the Centre jointly in 2012.
The Department currently has strength of three permanent and one contractual teaching staff. The present number of students undergoing various courses conducted under the department is around 200. The Department has a library containing around 150 course related, reference and other books related to History. The Department also set up a museum consisting of various artifacts of historical relevance. The collection is presently preserved in the Central Library of the College. The Department holds regular seminars and interaction sessions with the students. ICT methods are used regularly to engage the students and make the learning process more interactive. Students are engaged in various programmes during the Annual Sports and College Week. They also prepare a wall magazine on different historical themes every year. The department has also conducted a workshop on ‘Museum Studies’ in the past and also organized two National Webinars.
The Department maintains an active role with other institutions. Joint fieldwork expeditions, seminars and workshops have been held. The Department has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of History, Moran Mahila Mahavidyalaya in 2022.
