Motto
The motto of Sonari college “तेजस्विनावधीतमस्तु” (Tejasvi navadhitamastu) has been extracted from Brahmananda Valli (section on Brahma-bliss) of Taittiriya Upanishad(तैत्तिरीय उपनिषद्).Original version was “ॐ सहनाववतु। सहनौभुनक्तु। सहवीर्यंकरवावहै। तेजस्विनावधीतमस्तुमाविद्विषावहै।ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः॥” (Om! May it (Brahman) protect us both (teacher and student)! May we both enjoy knowledge! May we learn together! May our study be brilliant! May we never quarrel! Om! Peace! Peace! Peace!” Here, Tejasvi: fruitful, nau: of us both (teacher and students), adhitam: the learning. Thus, meaning of the motto: May our (teacher and students) learning/study be equally fruitful/ brilliant. The motto was chosen for the college by Prof. Mukunda Madhab Sharma who served as the vice chancellor of Dibrugarh University from July 12, 1992, to July 12, 1997.
