The discipline of mathematics was introduced at Sonari College in the year 1984. The major course was started with due permission from Dibrugarh University vide permission letter No. DU/REG/IC/PERM/95/929-23 dtd 8.2.95 in the year 1993-94, and the total number of students enrolled in the first batch of the course was only six with a great mission and vision. At present, the department offers three years Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) course in mathematics in the CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) system and offers mathematics subjects for the 2-years higher secondary course. Apart from normal academics, the department has been taking extra classes for different competitive examinations like JAM, M.Sc. entrance examinations of different universities, etc.

MISSION OF THE MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT: The mission of the department is to:

      • To achieve high standards of excellence in generating and propagating knowledge in mathematics.
      • To provide mathematics where students can learn, become competent users of mathematics, and understand the use of mathematics in other disciplines.

VISION OF THE MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT: The vision of the department is to be one of the best mathematics departments in the region and to provide quality-oriented teaching that may bring out the potential of the students. Also, this department aims to produce qualified graduates who are equipped with deeper insight into the field of mathematics through theory as well as programming in various computer application software. Besides, the department is working together with the nearby schools in the greater Sonari area by organizing various programs to create interest among school students.
