The Science Faculty of Sonari College was established in the year 1984 with the subjects Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Before 1984 the students of the Charaideo had to go to different places of Assam for having higher education in Science. This problem was solved when the Governing Body of Sonari College took the resolution to start the Science faculty from the Pre-Degree Course (now the higher secondary course) onwards. The Degree course in Botany, Zoology and Mathematics were opened in 1987 with permission from Dibrugarh University through the letter no:-

• E-PG817/87/9/A Date 3^rd May, 1990
• DU/ADMN/PERM/SC/90/926 Date 28^th Nov, 1990.

Again the College had applied for the permission of Major Course in Botany to Dibrugarh University and fortunately the permission was given to open Major Course in Botany with the letter no:- MAJOR-DU/Reg/IC/Perm/95/929/33 w.e.f.-1993-1994 session. Since that session the Department of Botany, Sonari College has been successfully continuing the Major Course in Botany till the present date, now with a well equipped laboratory.
